AI Propel Reddit to First Profit as a Public Company

Reddit's Big Milestone: First Profit as a Public Company

Reddit has made a splash in the social media world by turning a profit for the first time since going public. This success comes from a huge increase in users and smart use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

User Growth

Reddit’s user base is booming. Daily active users reached 97.2 million, up 47% from last year. This growth isn’t just a one-time thing; daily users rose by over 27% in a few months, hitting 73.1 million.

The number of weekly users also climbed, going from 207.3 million to 267.5 million in a year. Monthly users reached around 1.2 billion in February 2024, up from 1.1 billion the year before.

AI Tools Boost Growth

One of the reasons for this success is Reddit's smart use of AI. They added a feature that translates posts into multiple languages, including French and Spanish. This makes the platform more user-friendly and helps attract users from countries like France and India.

Reddit has also made money by partnering with companies like Google and OpenAI. These agreements let these companies use Reddit’s content to train their AI models, bringing in more revenue for Reddit.

Strong Financials

Reddit reported a profit of $29.9 million, or 16 cents per share, for the period ending in September 2024. This was better than expected, with sales hitting $348.4 million, beating predictions of $312.8 million.

Advertising is Reddit's main money-maker, with ad revenue rising by 56% from the previous year. As a result, Reddit's stock jumped 42%, closing at $116.05, showing that investors are confident in the company’s future.

Looking Ahead

Reddit plans to keep focusing on AI and expanding globally. They aim to roll out the translation feature to over 30 countries by 2025. Additionally, they’re exploring more AI partnerships for extra revenue.

Overall, Reddit's path to profit highlights how they are leveraging user growth and AI to become a strong player in social media. With continued expansion and innovation, Reddit is set for ongoing success in the future.
